5 ways getting fit together in 2024 will improve your relationship with your significant other

Everyone makes the same resolution every year—to exercise more and get fit. But this year, make that tired resolution with a new goal in mind—improving the connection and passion in your relationship.

According to fitness power couple Chris and Tracie Vlaun, couples that work out together enjoy 5 benefits that go beyond getting ripped abs or sculpted arms.

  1. Better Sex—Whoo-hoo! Who doesn’t want to sign up for better sex? According to the Vlauns, activity changes your hormones. Add in that you’re both starting to feel and look better and you have all the ingredients to rekindle the passion.
  2. Better Connection—Having a shared goal changes the lens of your relationship. When you’re both improving yourselves, you want to also improve your relationship.
  3. Better Mental Health—The connection between exercise and mental health is well documented. You start to feel better individually and that changes how you relate to your partner.
  4. Better Wellness—When you make a shared resolution to get fit, you’re on the same page with your nutrition and overall health goals. Less bar time and more barbell time.
  5. Better Appreciation—According to the Vlauns people are bucking traditional fitness roles with more women seeking out strength training, while more men are focusing on flexibility. This gives them both a new appreciation for what the other normally excels at. It provides common ground and something to talk about.

As a former Elite model turned yoga instructor Tracie and her functional fitness husband Chris know firsthand the benefits of working out as a couple.

“When couples work out together, they are more aware, loving, involved, and emotionally close,” said Tracie.

Tracie’s 15 years as an Elite model allowed her to grace the globe exploring a variety of yoga disciplines. She balanced the demands of a fast-pace modeling career by studying and deepening her yoga practice. Christopher balanced a background in performance training, movement and functional fitness training along with earning degrees in art and design.

By incorporating holistic principles and practices such as yoga and calisthenics into their fitness regimen, the couple has differentiated themselves from the traditional gym-based workout routine and has greatly helped to inspire many to adopt a more well-rounded and holistic approach to their own health and wellness.

In 2024, the Vlauns are hosting two international retreats for couples. The first is slated April 11-15, 2024 at Naia Resort & Spa in Belize, and the second at the luxurious Melia Punta Cana in the Dominican Republic Sept. 25-28, 2024. The retreats will help couples kickstart a workout and wellness program.
